Chloe all heart in women’s skateboarding final

Aussie skateboarder Chloe Covell wrapped up her Olympic campaign in a tough final finishing eighth in the Street event in front of a boisterous Paris crowd.

The 14-year-old from Tweed Heads, NSW qualified fourth for the final with two solid runs.

But despite her best efforts, it wasn’t meant to be as the tenacious and talented teenager struggled to land complex runs in the final.

She scored 70.33 points in an extraordinary Street session.

Overcome with emotion following the competition, the ever-bright Chloe said she was out of luck against some of the world’s best skateboarders.

“I tried my best. You know, I just couldn't land much,” Chloe said.

“I wanted to keep trying and not give up. It was very hard work to get here, but I tried my best, and I just got to come back better and stronger.”

Considered as one of the brightest prospects in the sport globally, Chloe is already thinking beyond her last day of competition in Paris.

She will be aged 18 for the Los Angeles Games and 22 years old, if the sport is included in the Brisbane Olympics.

“2028 is definitely the next goal.” Chloe said. “Hopefully, I can do well there. I just gotta train really hard.”

The event was won by Japanese athlete Coco Yoshizawa with a stunning 272.75, followed by teammate Liz Akama (JPN) with 265.95 and crowd favourite from Brazil Rayssa Leal (253.37)

Chloe was proud of what she had achieved and couldn’t help but soak up the moment.

“It was amazing. Like, you know, all the crowd was super, you know, hyped up and energetic, which is really good.” Chloe said.

Despite the result and emotions, Chloe walked away with a smile and won the hearts of a nation.

Teammates Haylie Powell and Liv Lovelace also competed in the Street event but were unable to progress past the preliminary round, finishing in 20th and 21st respectively.
