Skate Australia launch Summer of Skate

Skate Australia have launched their Summer of Skate initiative with a range of free Come and Try Days across the country.

Partnering with local clubs, The Y Victoria [formally YMCA] and Skate Australia skateboard coaches around the country, these Come and Try Days will deliver jam-packed and fun sessions for athletes of all levels. Individuals will be able to register for a range of different sessions from single classes, through to six-week beginner programmes.

The Summer of Skate initiative will give registered attendees the opportunity to try out a number of different Skate Australia disciplines such as skateboarding, speed skating, artistic skating, roller derby, and rink hockey.

With the first Come and Try Day sessions kicking off in collaboration with The Y on Monday, March 6th, at West Footscray Skatepark, Victoria from 4pm–6pm, individuals will be able to learn the basic fundamentals to skateboarding and even learn some cool tricks along the way.

Interim Chief Executive Officer of Skate Australia, Caitlin Honey is excited to be bringing these Come and Try days to the local communities in the hopes it will help introduce newcomers to the sport.

“Skate Australia are excited to be supporting our local clubs, skating groups, and community organisations in the delivery of our Summer of Skate Come and Try Days,” said Honey.

“We are providing more opportunities to more people to come try skating and skateboarding and this program is a great way to introduce people to our sports.

“To see so many clubs interested in our free sessions is great, we firmly believe that community activities that are fun, engaging, and active are the foundation for many sports and something we are invested in developing into the future.”
